The Organ
The Organ was originally built on the West gallery in 1863, by J.W. Walker
& Sons. In 1883 it was re-sited in a spacious loft on the South side
of the new Chancel. Benson rebuilt and enlarged the Organ to three manuals,
and in 1978 the London firm, N.P. Mander Ltd, completed a comprehensive
mechanical restoration and refurbishment of the instrument.
The present 42 stop instrument, having no registration aids, provides
the best discipline for teaching and study, not to mention the greatest
long term reliability.
